quote of the day...

“there is a conception in this country about luxurious things that we have to save them for a time that’s right. but an object is truly luxurious if you allow it to be, if you use it. when you live with beautiful things you stimulate your mind, you enjoy life a little bit more."

just another manic monday...

i spent my day unpacking boxes full of accessories, making 10 trips to load my car, making 10 more trips to unload the car at my clients house, and then two hours installing the accessories! it was all worth it to see the final outcome and a happy client! but because i would lose my head if it wasn't attached i forgot to snap a pic to go along with my already boring, half-assed post. and if that isn't enough of an eventful monday... i admittedly bawled my eyes out during tonights bachelor finale. have a good week, everyone!

quote of the day...

"the essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. it is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what's in or what's out. this is not an easy job."

the very pink of perfection

two weeks ago i moved into a new house with two of my best friends (we are having the time of our lives... uncontrollable, non-stop laughter!) we have been up to our heads in boxes for what seems like years... but we have finally finished unpacking! now comes the fun part: styling our new space! both girls are aware of my control issues and given the fact that i do this for a living they have relinquished total control over to me for our living/dining areas. i have been brainstorming for a few weeks now and have started a list of the top 5 tasks to accomplish:

first and foremost: our inspiration photo! we are basically starting from scratch with the exception of a large chocolate sectional... because i cannot ever make a decision when it comes to my own home i went in search of inspiration. i was completely unsure of what color palette i wanted to use before i ran across this lovely room by the oh-so-talented amanda nisbet. i knew instantly this was it... the very pink of perfection! i received approval from the roomies... pink, chocolate and caramel!

1. arc floor lamp
we have an open floor plan, 10' ceilings and a u-shaped sectional that spans 12'... needless to say we need something grand! i decided on the knock-off version at overstock of the original design via flos lighting (i wish i had 2,500 to splurge on the real deal... someday!)

2. shelving
the wall behind our 12' sectional is currently blank and our books/accessories are in desperate need of a home. ikea will once again save the day with their expedit bookcase... my goal is to have two of these lovely ladies put together by the end of the week... wish me luck!
3. stationary side panels
because our walls are white, the most effective way to add color to our space will be on the windows... i don't have the time or patience to pump out window panels so i'm going to enlist my lovely mother to do them pro-bono (surprise, momma!) hmmm, solid or patterned?

4. paint console/chairs
i bought this antique console last year for 50.00! that's right, 50.00... be jealous! tiffany blue was the perfect fit for my last home but i'm undecided if i should use it as-is or go with pink? then there are the chairs (hand-me-downs from my mother) they were previously a dark cherry finish but i have since refinished them with white paint... i'm 99.9% sure i will leave them white and simply change the upholstery...

5. stripe a wall
we were fortunate enough to be blessed with two fireplaces along one long wall of our open floor plan (i say fortunate because they are original and beautiful... not because we will ever actually build fires) the wall between the two fireplaces is screaming: stripe me, stripe me! i'm thinking 4" horizontal stripes behind my chinese chippendale server with a round mirror and side lamps... now if only i could decide on a color?

then comes accessories, art, pillows, mirrors, lamps, rugs..... stay tuned!

today...

i delivered the final touches to a clients dining room and decided i need a skirted parsons table of my own... stat! in fact, i think they should be mandatory somewhere in every home...

i had a shut-the-front-door moment at t.j. maxx (i said this out loud. people were staring.)
if i have a place to put these lovely ladies i would have went straight to the register with them! a fresh coat of paint and new cushions and we would be in business! i still have not given up on them... they might end up with a new home by the weekend!
