dear mom,

you know that oh-so-fabulous antique server you have in the foyer?
the one you keep saying you're going to refinish?
well, it's spring now and time for you to start a project!
take the drawers out, paint the shell black and the drawers white...
and in the meantime, i will be on the lookout  for new hardware!
love you, xoxo

quote of the day...

"the public is more familiar with bad design than good design. it is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. the new becomes threatening, the old reassuring."

while shopping on etsy for posters i stumbled across the above darling typography prints and found them perfectly fitting for a nursery collage wall... now if only i had a client that was with child! oh wait, i already do!

diy done right!

how fun is this kitchen island?! i ran across the kitchen of jen johner via the house of turquoise and was directed to her lovely blog, the little things... like myself, she loves to find anything she can get her hands on to paint! her freshly painted kitchen island has inspired me to purchase the ikea groland kitchen island and start painting away (after it takes me a day to put it together, of course!) my new apartment has a large l shaped kitchen with lots of natural light, high ceilings, wood floors, and a large empty space perfect for a island with two bar stools... just what i need to make the kitchen more cozy!

these are times to...

"walk the dog
look twice
blow your budget to furnish the nest
demand excellence
believe in trees
love animals
make room magic
hero worship your muses
send thank yous in writing
know that colours can’t clash
go without your Blackberry and pick some actual blackberries *
hold parties and celebrate
let your home make you happy"

" *we must thank the glorious Jonathon Adler for this pearl – it’s just way too good not to include."

i borrowed the above manifesto from the blog homelove by megan morton to share with you today... i'm always inspired by the way other designers live their lives and so i wanted to pass along her wisdom.  after clicking around on her website i discovered she has also written a book titled home love containing 100 inspiring ideas for creating beautiful rooms... looks like a must read!

"it is the personality of the mistress that the home expresses. men are forever guests in our homes, no matter how much happiness they may find there."
