color combo: violet & yellow

although the first day of fall has not officially arrived it already feels like fall in my own little world... labor day has come and gone, the air conditioner has been replaced by open windows, football season has kicked off, pumpkin spice is back at starbucks, and a few leaves are beginning to hit the ground...

the grace period between the changing of seasons reminds me of the use of the complimentary colors violet and yellow... i associate the jewel tone combo of colors with fall and the pastel/eater egg combo with summer... i have pulled together a few rooms for your viewing pleasure... enjoy!

quote of the day...

"decorating is not about making stage sets, it's not about making pretty pictures for the magazines; it's really about creating a quality of life, a beauty that nourishes the soul."

making market st. beautiful... one facade at a time!

...the before!

so here it is: my new baby! i recently just finished up with suite three (a block down from the above location) and now we'removing on to the next remodel! i have one week to come up with a few sketches to present to the city for approval! yikes!

the first thing to come to mind this morning while outside staring at the building was...
BLACK AND WHITE AWNING! practically all of the buildings on the most traveled street in the downtown area are bland to say the least (besides the newly facelifted suite three, of course) so there is nothing more fitting than a bold awning to make you stop and stare! i google image searched for a few ideas and complied a few favs for your viewing pleasure :)

princess chair: before & after

just quick post to share my first ever reupholster job! (besides the oh-so-easy dining chair seats i've come to master) this chair however was a different story... the seat of course was just plain simple, there was no problem getting the back on, but then i came to the front... anddd i ended up cheating and super gluing on the welt to cover my staple tracks... not exactly perfection, but i can live with it for now! i now learned the hard way that an upholstery "how to" class is in my near future! not bad though for a first timer...

before...

...after!

i found the chair at a flea market over two years ago and instantly saw the potential! i just now got around to refinishing the boring brown stain with a high gloss white lacquer and ordered robert allen silver "vinyl" to replace the hideous gold (and forgive me for saying) burgundy fabric... and there you have it, my princess chair!
